Therefore I Hope
The book of Lamentations is all about how terrible and terribly sad life has become, and life for the people writing it was really bad. (It’s only five chapters long; just read the whole thing. Seriously.) It’s a beautiful poem and right in the middle of the poem there are a couple verses of hope. In a world full of hopelessness, depression, and suicide, we have hope. We have a Hope that we can share with others.
But this I call to mind,
and therefore I have hope:
The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases;
his mercies never come to an end;
they are new every morning;
great is your faithfulness.
“The Lord is my portion,” says my soul,
“therefore I will hope in him.”
